Chris Owens

After Magdalen College, Oxford, a committed and rewarding career as an English teacher culminated in 13 years as head of department at Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith. In 1992 he moved to Rome where he and his wife lived for 5 years. What had before been a part-time passion became full-time – he has been painting his watercolours, mostly in Italy and England, ever since.

More time in Italy where it is sunny, though he has always found it intriguing coming to terms with the impact of the two lands on how he draws and paints. In Italy there seems to be a balance between man, the cities, towns and villages in which he lives and the land he works.

This harmony, this sense of pattern, colour and form works itself out in his paintings of Venice. Always, whatever the subject, the challenge is to capture the energy in what he sees.

He has exhibited his work in a series of successful exhibitions both in Italy and in England, mostly in London. His paintings and drawings can also be seen in the Paradiso restaurants in central London.
